By now, you’ve probably heard of our super-cool British counterpart, Thirsty Cambridge. If not, it’s an award-winning Cambridge based bar & shop- stocking great value wine & craft beer, as well as delivering it up & down the country, and saving countless Brits from poor quality booze.
Fed up with missing all the après-ski fun in the Alps, Sam Owens, head honcho at Thirsty Cambridge, has dreamt up ‘THIRSTYFEST’; 11 evenings of top quality booze from the Thirsty Après-ski Bar, delicious nosh from Cambridge’s favourite food trucks and much, much more.
“As always with Thirsty, we like to take the stuffy out of the drinks scene and place the booze where it works best – alongside great food, with great company and in a funky place. We’re dead chuffed to hook up with the Mackay family to hold the winter events in the yard behind their store on East Road. They’re a Cambridge institution, a family-owned independent business (like us) and a great laugh.”
WHERE & WHEN:
It’s all happening in Cambridge, out the back of Mackays (entrance on New Street), just behind the Crown Court. There will be plenty of heaters and tables to allow folk to get comfortable, with cover provided in case of wet weather. Kickoff is Fri 25 Nov, with the evening events happening every weekend up to Christmas. What’s more, it’s free entry and guests can buy food directly from the food trucks while chilling out with the producers and brewers, and there’s even Winter Boules to try your hand at…
Naturally, there’s going to be some pretty cracking wine & beer on offer. You can expect a great range of red and white wine, as well as Craft Beer from leading UK and international brewers. Not to be out-done, Sam’s got involved with the brewing too and has created “Thirsty Glühbier”. Available only at THIRSTYFEST Winter 2016, it’s made in a malty rich style, flavoured with cinnamon, cloves, orange peel and raisins. Alongside the beer, Thirsty’s own special-recipe Glühwein will also be served.
There’ll also be a delicious selection of food to keep you happy. Food trucks like Steak & Honor and Guerilla Kitchen will be knocking up their mouthwateringly good fare- what more could you want?!
Guests are encouraged to don their cheesiest 1980’s ski gear, Lederhosen or Dirndls in return for a free glass of Glühwein. “It’s all about having a damn good laugh to raise spirits at the end of the year”, added Owens.
